I’ve always known Elizabeth as Athalia’s sister, and I remember them to be quite close, always together. Athalia was more outgoing, hence our circle of friends overlapped through the years. In the 6 years I knew Elizabeth, I recall two very vivid interactions, both contrasting encounters in themselves.
First was in College Camp April 2004, I was on the beach and so was Liz. I said to her,”I feel like running”, and she also came along. The other one was when I tagged along a friend who wanted to visit Athalia, and she snapped at us because we were in her space.
Ironically, we never spoke much. I joke about how I ignored her for 6 years and suddenly, one mighty fine day I realized how attractive she is. Not just in the physical sense, but as we spent time together I began to see her inner beauty shining through and realizing that God was doing something in my life through her that I very well knew deep down in my heart no one else could.
In about a month and a half, with the knowledge of each other’s expectations of a love relationship we decided to embark on a journey of mutual commitment as a couple to work towards marriage. We spoke to our overseeing pastor, and she blessed us with love, prayer and sound advice which really gave us a confirmation that we’re moving in the right direction of our lives both individually and jointly.
We did catch a large unsuspecting crowd who never saw it coming. We were more fond of walks in the park with April (the family dog) and nature sightseeing that we somehow unintentionally avoided detection in the shopping malls.
Five months later, I bought a ring and planned a proposal.
